Vladimir was born in Murmansk, Russia, on March 19, 1967. He was Detroit's 12th choice in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft and was 221st overall. Last season, Vlady tied his season best as a Red Wing in points with 34 and had his career high in goals with 14. He also finished first in the NHL plus minus category with a career best plus 60. He was plus or even in 71 of 81 games. In his career, Vlady was on the 1991-92 All Rookie Team and had his 100th NHL point on March 22, 1995 vs. Winnipeg. He was Captain of the Red Army Soviet National Team, and appeared in four World Championships, beginning in 1986.
